Monthly Planting Calendar
Hawaii (USDA 11-13) is tropical and effectively frost-free, so something can be planted in every month of the year. The main rhythm is a cooler, wetter winter and a warmer, drier summer rather than a frost line. Tropicals that struggle on the mainland (banana, papaya, taro, ginger, citrus, avocado) thrive here; cool-season crops do best in the cooler winter months or at elevation, and can bolt in lowland summer heat. High-chill temperate fruit (apples, cherries, stone fruit) generally will not fruit in the lowlands. These windows are a first-pass estimate from UH CTAHR and regional guidance and are being reviewed locally.

When can I plant in Hawaii?
Year-round, with no frost to work around. Warm-season and tropical crops go in any month; time cool-season greens for the cooler, wetter winter or grow them at elevation.
Why no apples or cherries?
High-chill temperate fruit needs a cold winter dormancy that the Hawaiian lowlands do not provide, so they rarely fruit. Stick to tropical and subtropical fruit.
How accurate are these dates?
A careful first pass based on UH CTAHR and regional guidance, under local review.
